Dr. Tasos Varoudis is an Associate Professor in Architecture and Machine Intelligence at The Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London. He specializes in hybrid architecture, computational analysis of spatial systems, and machine intelligence applications in urban design. As lead developer of the 'depthmapX' spatial network analysis software, he has been a key figure in the Space Syntax Laboratory since 2011.
- Current research cluster leader for MArch Urban Design RC14
- Member of UCL's Urban Dynamics Laboratory (funded by £4m EPSRC grant)
His research on spatial dynamics combines traditional architectural design with computational methods like agent-based modeling, machine learning, and visibility graph analysis. Recent work includes Decoding Tehran (2024) examining urban configuration, and Reversing Urban Food Deserts (2024) proposing adaptive networks for urban resilience.
Teaching positions include MSc Space Syntax: Architecture and City, and MSc Architectural Computation programs. His work addresses global challenges through SDG-aligned research in:
- Sustainable Cities (SDG 11)
- Climate Action (SDG 13)
- Infrastructure Innovation (SDG 9)
- Ecosystem Preservation (SDG 15)
