Taryn Garlock is an Assistant Professor and Extension Specialist at Auburn University's School of Fisheries, Aquaculture & Aquatic Sciences, based in Swingle Hall. Her research program focuses on sustainable aquaculture development, fisheries economics, and aquatic food systems. Analysis of her recent publications reveals three dominant themes: 1) Development and application of Aquaculture Performance Indicators for global sustainability assessments; 2) Economic analyses of seafood markets and value chains; and 3) Bioeconomic modeling of fisheries and aquaculture systems. Her work spans diverse geographical contexts including the US, EU, China, and tropical fisheries.
Garlock's research employs both macroeconomic analysis of global seafood trade and microeconomic examination of species-specific production systems. She maintains strong focus on the environmental-economic-social triad of sustainability, particularly through her innovative work on the 'triple bottom line' assessment framework. Her extension activities bridge academic research with industry applications, especially evident in her studies of recirculating aquaculture systems and by-product utilization.
