Taro Furukata is an Associate Professor at Hiroshima City University and internationally recognized artist. He holds a dual academic affiliation with Rennes 2 University as International Chair in Humanities and Social Sciences. His primary role is within the Visual Arts Department of the Faculty of Arts, Literature and Communication.
Education: BFA (1999) & MFA (2001) from Hiroshima City University, followed by a BFA (2010) from Weißensee Academy of Art Berlin after 12 years in Germany. Research focuses on Hiroshima's pre- and post-atomic bomb urban identity conflicts, combining artistic practice with architectural history.
Recent projects include presentations on Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park design, collaborations with Rennes 2's EUR CAPS program exploring insularity and public art, and exhibitions addressing Fukushima displacement through installations like When the East Wind Blows.
Key collaborations involve cross-cultural academic partnerships with institutions like the PTAC research team and Creative Approaches to Public Spaces (CAPS) Graduate School, emphasizing interdisciplinary artistic research.
