معرفی
Tarmo Kall is an Associate Professor of Geodesy at the Estonian University of Life Sciences, Institute of Forestry and Engineering, where he works in the Chair of Forest and Land Management and Wood Processing Technologies. Born on February 16, 1971, he has been with the university since 1995, progressing from Assistant to Lecturer, and now to Associate Professor (since January 1, 2025; previously as Associate Professor/dotsent from September 2019 to December 2024). His academic journey includes a Doctor's Degree (2016) with thesis 'Vertical crustal movements based on precise levellings in Estonia' and a Research Master's Degree (1997) on 'Determination of land uplift in South-Estonia.'
Kall's research focuses on geodesy, particularly crustal movements, sea level rise, postglacial rebound, GNSS applications, and satellite altimetry. His work contributes significantly to understanding climate change impacts through precise geodetic measurements and refining geodetic reference systems. He specializes in studying the connection between geodetic networks and global observation systems, with particular emphasis on the Estonian context and the Baltic Sea region.
Analysis of Kall's recent publications reveals a strong focus on sea level rise in the Baltic Sea, utilizing both satellite altimetry and traditional geodetic methods. His work increasingly integrates multiple data sources (GNSS, satellite altimetry, tide gauges) to separate vertical land motion from absolute sea level changes. The research shows a clear progression toward more sophisticated 3D modeling of crustal movements and their relationship to postglacial rebound processes in the Fennoscandian region.
- 2016: Quality badge for e-course 'Satellite geodesy'
- 2014: Raefond Prize of the Estonian University of Life Sciences
- 2013: Innovative lecturer of the Estonian university of Life Sciences
- 1997: 2nd award in student's research work competition of Estonian Academy of Sciences
Kall actively participates in numerous research projects related to geodesy and sea level monitoring, including international collaborations. He serves as Principal Investigator for projects like 'Tippspetsialisti kaasamine EMÜ geodeesia valdkonna kaugseire alase kompetentsi tõstmiseks' (2026-2027). As a reviewer for multiple scientific journals including 'Journal of Geodetic Science', 'Geodynamics', 'Remote Sensing', and 'Acta Geodynamica et Geomaterialia', he contributes to the scholarly community. He is also a member of the Estonian Association of Surveyors and the European Geoscience Union, demonstrating his engagement with professional organizations.
His work connects closely with the Nordic Geodetic Commission, where he serves as the national contact person for the 'Reference Frames' working group. This international collaboration enhances the quality and relevance of his research on geodetic reference systems in the Baltic region.
