Tareva Johnson is a Lecturer of English at Clemson University's College of Architecture, Arts, and Humanities. She holds a Ph.D. in English Literature from the University of Georgia (2022), a MA from the same institution (2012), and a BA from Columbia University (2008). Her research focuses on African American literature, spatiality in James Baldwin's works, and Black cultural production in the Global South. She teaches courses on African American literature, composition, and Black horror aesthetics.

Her research interests include Black spatialities, material culture, and digital humanities. Her current project explores geographies of Black art and social control in Baldwin's writings.
Johnson has presented at conferences such as the Southeastern Women’s Studies Association and Society for the Study of Multi-Ethnic Literature. She was awarded the Lee Roy Giles Encouragement Award for excellence in African American Studies and the Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award.
- Teaching: Courses include ENGL 2160 (African American Literature), ENGL 1030 (Composition), and Science and Technology in Society 1010.
She also serves on Clemson’s Black History Month Planning Committee and has led educational programs at correctional facilities.
