Tareq Radi

Tareq Radi is a President's Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Critical Race and Ethnic Studies at the University of California, Merced. His research bridges Palestine studies, financialization, and critical race theory, examining how financial systems operate as mechanisms of colonial control and racial dispossession in Palestinian contexts and beyond.

His educational background includes a Ph.D. in American Studies from New York University (dissertation: Cultivating Credit: Race, War, and the Uneven Development of Empire in Palestine), an M.S. in Globalization and Development from SOAS, University of London, and a B.S. in Finance from George Mason University. His doctoral work was advised by Andrew Ross.

Radi's research interests focus on the intersections of empire, finance, and racial capitalism, with particular attention to mortgage systems as tools of colonial expansion. His scholarship combines rigorous academic analysis with political commitment to Palestinian liberation, evident in his co-authorship of the widely circulated Palestine and Praxis: Scholars for Palestinian Freedom pledge from May 2021.

His publications in the Journal of Palestine Studies demonstrate consistent engagement with how financialization facilitates spatial control and racial hierarchies across geopolitical contexts including Turtle Island, Palestine, and the Philippines.
