Tarek Virani

Tarek Virani serves as Associate Professor of Creative Industries at the School of Arts within the College of Arts, Technology and Environment (CATE) at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol), where his work centers on the structural dynamics and policy frameworks of creative economies.

His research investigates organizational resilience in cultural sectors, urban cultural policy development, creative ecosystem sustainability, post-creative city transitions, culture-led regeneration models, and international comparative studies of creative work. He examines how creative industries navigate crises like the Covid-19 pandemic while advancing inclusive urban development through cultural districts and creative hubs.

As Director of Studies, he supervises PhD candidate Valentina Orru. His active research portfolio includes Skills Bootcamps for creative leadership (WECA, 2024-2026), Bristol's music ecosystem analysis (WECA/Culture West), Mayor of London's Creative Enterprise Zones evaluation (GLA), and ESRC-funded resilience studies. He previously led AHRC's Bristol and Bath Creative R&D initiative (2020-2023).

He co-founded UWE's Creative Economies Lab (2020-2023) and contributes to the Digital Cultures Research Centre, while teaching BA programs in Media Production and Culture, Media & Creative Industries with modules on cultural value and professional practice.
