Dr. Tarek Saab is Associate Professor of Physics at University of Florida with PhD from Stanford University. As Spokesperson of the SuperCDMS collaboration, he leads design and construction of the SuperCDMS SNOLAB dark matter experiment. His research focuses on direct detection of dark matter using cryogenic detectors and novel superfluid helium-based technologies.
Research investigates weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs) using germanium and silicon cryogenic detectors at SNOLAB underground facility. Parallel projects develop superfluid helium detectors with nano-electromechanical sensors for light dark matter candidates.
Publications demonstrate advances in low-threshold detection capabilities and background mitigation strategies. Recent work establishes world-leading constraints on low-mass dark matter candidates and develops new detection paradigms using superfluid helium.
Leads international SuperCDMS collaboration of 100+ scientists across 20 institutions. Manages detector development, calibration, and data analysis for multi-tonne cryogenic dark matter experiment at SNOLAB.
Supervises research in Astrophysics Experiment laboratory, advancing detector technologies for particle astrophysics. Collaborates with UF faculty on quantum-enhanced detection systems using superfluid helium and nanomechanical sensors.
