Professor Tara Mackenzie is Associate Dean and Head of School of Clinical Medicine (Rural) at the University of New South Wales. A consultant respiratory physician with 18+ years of service in Wagga, she holds an MBBS (Hons I) BSc(Med) from UNSW, FRACP in Respiratory Medicine, and a Masters of Medical Education from the University of Sydney. Previously, she served as inaugural Network Director of Training at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.
Research Focus: Professor Mackenzie specializes in:
- Respiratory disease management and treatment
- Curriculum development for medical education
- Improving healthcare delivery in rural communities
Awards & Honors:
- 2020 Thoracic Society Medal for advancing thoracic medicine
- 2018 Malcolm Schonell Memorial Lecture Medal
- 2018 Namesake teaching award from Royal Prince Alfred Hospital
- 2012 50th Anniversary Medal for respiratory education leadership
Leadership: She chairs the HETI Physician Training Council and has held national positions with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and Thoracic Society of Australia/New Zealand. Her advocacy prioritizes regional patient wellbeing and trainee development.
