Tara Lyons, PhD (she/her), is a faculty member in the Department of Criminology at Kwantlen Polytechnic University and Chair of the KPU Research Ethics Board. Her research focuses on the intersection of legal, health, and social systems impacting marginalized communities, particularly 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals, sex workers, and people who use drugs.
Dr. Lyons’ work includes community-based studies on:
- Health outcomes of 2SLGBTQIA+ sex workers and drug users
- Structural factors shaping wellbeing
- Transgender healthcare access
- Urban policy impacts on vulnerable populations
She co-founded Canadian Students for Sensible Drug Policy (CSSDP) and serves as a Strategic Advisor. Recent awards include KPU’s Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Award (2023) and the Faculty of Arts Research and Scholarship Mentorship Award (2023).
Dr. Lyons teaches courses ranging from introductory criminology to specialized topics in:
