Tara Ivanochko

Tara Ivanochko is a Teaching Professor at the University of British Columbia (Vancouver Campus), affiliated with the Faculty of Science and the Department of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences. She also serves as Academic Director of the UBC Sustainability Hub, Director of the Environmental Science Program (ENSC), and Co-Director of the Certificate for Climate Studies and Action. Her roles emphasize educational leadership in sustainability and climate action.

Education: PhD in Paleooceanography/Paleoclimatology (2005, University of Edinburgh). Previous roles include Research Associate and Postdoctoral Fellow at UBC (2008–2009 and 2005–2008, respectively).

Teaching & Research: Focuses on integrating open-source computational tools into Earth science education. Leads courses such as Climate Action Labs (ENVR 201/301/401) and the Environmental Science Capstone (ENVR 400). Research interests include advancing sustainability education, climate science, and geoscience pedagogy.

Advising & Grants: Currently not accepting students. Her work is supported through institutional roles and educational initiatives rather than external grants.

Labs & Teams: Central to the UBC Sustainability Hub and the Environmental Science Program, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration on climate action and sustainability.
