Tara Alvarez is a Professor in the Department of Bio-Medical Engineering at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). Her research focuses on understanding how the brain remaps oculomotor systems through training and vision therapy.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Rutgers University-New Brunswick (1998)
- M.S. in Biomedical Engineering, Rutgers University-New Brunswick (1997)
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Rutgers University-New Brunswick (1994)
Research Interests span neuroscience, biomedical engineering, and vision science. She investigates neural substrates of vergence eye movements, functional reorganization in convergence insufficiency, and develops diagnostic tools for binocular dysfunctions. Her work integrates fMRI and neuroimaging to study cortical network dynamics.
Publication Trends show a focus on convergence insufficiency, neuroplasticity, and eye movement disorders. Her recent articles explore home monitoring devices, accommodative responses, and multimodal neuroimaging analyses, often linking clinical outcomes with neural connectivity patterns post-trauma.
