Kevin Willeford, O.D., M.S., PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Optometry at NOVA Southeastern University's College of Optometry. He completed his undergraduate studies in Neuroscience at the University of Miami, followed by dual doctorates in Optometry and Vision Science from SUNY College of Optometry. Prior to his current position, he served as an Assistant Professor at SUNY College of Optometry with responsibilities spanning didactic education, clinical training, and vision research.
His research program focuses on the neural mechanisms of binocular vision and oculomotor control, with emphasis on comparative studies between normal visual function and pathological conditions like aniseikonia and strabismus. Key methodologies in his work include eye movement quantification, computer programming, and psychophysical techniques to investigate sensorimotor fusion dynamics and adaptive responses in the visual system. His unique perspective as a researcher with strabismus drives his interest in understanding neuroplasticity in visual processing.
Willeford's recent publications demonstrate a consistent focus on developing novel diagnostic techniques for ocular motility (limbus tracking, duction protocols), quantifying perceptual anomalies in binocular vision (aniseikonia mapping), and exploring neurophysiological correlates of visual processing (VEP, LFP, EMG applications). His work bridges clinical optometry with fundamental neuroscience, frequently employing electrophysiological and computational approaches to address questions in visual perception and motor control.
