Tanya J. Rand serves as Clinical Faculty and Coordinator of Aging Services at the University of St. Thomas School of Social Work. She holds an EdD from St. Mary's University, MSW from St. Catherine University/University of St. Thomas, and BSW from New Mexico State University.
Her research focuses on gerontology, health care systems, caregiving dynamics, and multigenerational family relationships. With extensive clinical experience across healthcare settings—including inpatient psychiatry, chemical dependency, oncology, and neurology—she emphasizes integrating theory with practice through field education and distance learning methodologies.
Her publications since 2012 demonstrate consistent focus on aging services, dementia care, motivational interviewing, and professional self-care. These works reflect interdisciplinary engagement with healthcare systems, family dynamics, and clinical social work practice.
As Area of Emphasis in Aging coordinator, she mentors students through field placements while developing curriculum for health-focused social work practice. Her teaching includes Theory/Practice of Social Work I and Field Practicum & Seminar I.
Rand's career bridges academic instruction with direct healthcare experience, particularly in brain injury, dementia, and Parkinson's disease contexts. She champions social justice across the lifespan while developing professional social work leaders for healthcare settings.
