Tanya Howard is a Senior Research Fellow at the Australian Centre for Agriculture and Law (AgLaw) at the University of New England. Her work focuses on community engagement, environmental crime, and natural resource governance. She leads the multi-disciplinary Bushfires and Natural Hazards CRC project ‘The Human Dimensions of Environmental Crime’.
Education:
- Bachelor of Arts (Political Science) - UNSW
- Masters in Environmental Education - Macquarie University
- PhD (Community Engagement for Natural Resource Management) - UNE
Research Interests: Combining socio-legal methodologies with participatory processes to enhance community voices in environmental governance. Key areas include invasive species management, political ecology, and environmental justice.
Professional Roles: Board Member of the International Association for Society and Natural Resources; Alumnus of the Kettering Foundation (USA). She teaches natural resource policy, community engagement, and agricultural extension at UNE.
Notable Projects: Post-doctoral work on ‘Facilitating Effective Community Action’ (Invasive Animals CRC), contributing to the ‘Next Generation Landscape Governance’ ARC project.
