Tanya Gautam is a Researcher at the University of Cologne, affiliated with the Multidisciplinary Environmental Studies in the Humanities (MESH). She holds a BA in English Literature, Philosophy, and Psychology from Pune University (India) and an MA in English Studies from the University of Heidelberg (Germany). Her current doctoral research focuses on contemporary eco-poetics and its role in fostering socio-ecological change through the analysis of eco-poets from Australia and the USA. Her project, titled “The Living Lyric: Contemporary Eco-poetics and the Eco-Political Praxis of Attention, Communication and Activism in a Time of Climate Crisis,” explores how poetry can drive eco-political engagement.
Professionally, she has served as a research associate in the EcoLit project and previously in the EUniWell initiative (European University of Wellbeing). Beyond academia, Tanya organizes cultural events and creative writing workshops, drawing from her background as a kindergarten educator, journalist, editor, and spoken-word poet.
Her research interests bridge literary studies and environmental activism, emphasizing the intersection of poetry, ecology, and societal transformation.
