Tanja Petrović

Tanja Petrović is a Professor at the ZRC SAZU Postgraduate School and Head of the Institute of Culture and Memory Studies at the Scientific Research Center of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts (ZRC SAZU). She holds a PhD in Linguistics from the Ljubljana Postgraduate School in Humanities (2005) and an MA/BA from the Philological Faculty of the University of Belgrade. Her research focuses on post-socialist societies, memory studies, and the legacies of Yugoslav socialism, with a particular emphasis on language ideologies, political humor, and labor history.

Dr. Petrović has held prestigious fellowships at institutions including the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin and the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Studies. She is an Honorary Research Associate at the University of Regensburg's Graduate School for East and Southeast European Studies. Her work bridges anthropology, history, and cultural studies, addressing themes like transnational identity, heritage practices, and gender in post-Yugoslav contexts.

Her publications span monographs and peer-reviewed articles exploring topics such as the affective dimensions of Yugoslav socialism, the political uses of parody, and the socio-economic impacts of deindustrialization. She leads projects on memory, heritage, and gender equality in research institutions, including the 'Heritage in Action' initiative (2019-2021) and the 'ACT' gender equality program (2018-2021).

Dr. Petrović's research also engages with multicultural patterns in Central and Southeastern Europe, leveraging ethnographic methods and participatory approaches to study marginalized communities and contested historical narratives. She contributes to academic discourse through teaching at the University of Nova Gorica and ZRC SAZU Postgraduate School, focusing on memory, language, and post-socialist transformations.
