Tanja Abendschein-Angerstein

Tanja Abendschein-Angerstein was a former Visiting Researcher in the Global Governance Research Department at the WZB Berlin Social Science Center. She completed her PhD under a Berlin Graduate School for Transnational Studies scholarship from September 2010 to January 2015, with a dissertation titled "International Legalization as a Challenge for Democratic Participation in International Institutions – The Politics of International Law Using the Example of Biotechnological Patents". Her research focuses on legal frameworks, democratic standards, and institutional strategies within international governance structures.

Her academic background includes a deep engagement with global legal systems, particularly how international law interacts with democratic participation mechanisms. She explored these themes through the lens of biotechnological patent negotiations, analyzing how institutional design impacts equitable decision-making processes.
