Dr. Tania Leimbach is a Visiting Fellow at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) in the School of Communication, affiliated with the Climate Justice Research Centre and Climate, Society, Environment Research Centre in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS). Her research focuses on socio-cultural dimensions of sustainability, climate change communication, and the affective impacts of environmental crises. She develops educational resources for climate change education and empowers youth-led climate solutions.
- Education: PhD in Sustainability Studies (UTS, 2015), Graduate Diploma of Education (UTS, 2006), Bachelor of Fine Arts (National Art School, 2004)
- Non-academic roles: Integrative Research Officer at Soils for Life (2022–2023)
Research Interests: Climate communication, environmental humanities, transdisciplinary education, Indigenous relationalities, and multispecies awareness. Her work bridges art, science, and cultural practices to address climate justice and sustainability challenges. Recent projects include the Carbon_Dating art campaign collaborating with First Nations knowledge-holders.
Teaching & Advising: Over 10 years of tertiary teaching experience across multiple disciplines, including Sustainability in Context, Climate Crisis and Action, and Environmental Communication. Courses emphasize pedagogical innovation and emotional resilience in climate education. She mentors educators on integrating climate action into curricula.
Labs/Teams: Collaborates with Climate Justice Research Centre (UTS) and the Institute for Sustainable Futures (ISF). Engaged in transdisciplinary projects with cultural organizations and NGOs.
