Tania Demetriou is a Lecturer in Drama at the Faculty of English, University of Cambridge, and a Fellow in English at Sidney Sussex College. She specializes in Renaissance literature and classical reception, with a focus on early modern interactions with Greek poetry and drama.
Education:

Research interests include classical reception in early modern England, history of reading, translation practices, Neo-Latin writing, and the interplay between continental scholarship and English literary imitation. Her current book project examines the reception of Homer in England, emphasizing the influence of editorial practices, philology, and historical contexts on literary culture.
Publications highlight her expertise in Homeric and Greek tragic adaptations, early modern drama, and translation studies. Key works include analyses of George Chapman’s translations, Shakespeare’s classical influences, and collaborative studies on Renaissance textual scholarship.

Teaching and supervision involve undergraduate courses on Renaissance literature and Shakespeare, as well as graduate supervision in classical reception and early modern drama. She co-convenes the Neo-Latin seminar at the Faculty of English.
