Dr. Tang Kim San is a Senior Lecturer at the Malaysian School of Pharmacy, Monash University. He holds a PhD in Pharmacology from the University of Alberta, a BSc from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), and a Graduate Certificate in Higher Education from Monash University. His research focuses on neurodegenerative diseases, particularly mechanisms of brain cell death in Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s, with emphasis on oxidative stress and nanoparticle-based therapies.
Dr. Tang has led and contributed to research projects such as 'Mechanistic studies on the cytoprotective potential of yttrium oxide nanoparticles' (2020–2025) and 'Mechanistic studies to understand enzyme inhibition for anti-HIV agents' (2020–2023). He has been awarded the International Society of Neurochemistry Scholarship and the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada’s 'Focus on Stroke' Fellowship.
His teaching commitments include courses in the Bachelor of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Science programs at Monash University Malaysia. His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in advancing health and well-being through research.
Publications highlight contributions to nanoparticle neuroprotection, paraquat-induced apoptosis in Parkinson’s, and links between diabetes and Alzheimer’s. His interdisciplinary approach combines pharmacological strategies with nanotechnology to address neurodegenerative challenges.
