Prof. Dr. Tang Chih-Chieh is an associate fellow at the Institute of Sociology, Academia Sinica, and adjunct associate professor at National Taiwan University’s Department of Sociology. He earned his Ph.D. in social science from Universität Bielefeld (2002). His research focuses on systems theory, historical sociology, Chinese history, and Taiwan Studies, particularly the periodization of Chinese history through system differentiation perspectives.
His work spans comparative studies of societal structures, the theoretical foundations of sociology in Taiwan, and cultural analysis of sports. Notable contributions include exploring the semantics of 'public' vs. 'private' in China/West contexts and reinterpreting historical events like the Kaohsiung Incident through structural-process dialectics.
