Tanaji T. Talele

Tanaji T. Talele is a Professor of Medicinal Chemistry in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at St. John’s University’s College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. He holds a B.S. in Pharmacy (University of Pune, 1992), M.S. (Medicinal Chemistry, University of Mumbai, 1994), and Ph.D. (Medicinal Chemistry, University of Mumbai, 1998). Since 2005, he has served St. John’s, progressing from Assistant Professor (2005–2009) to Associate Professor (2009–2014) and Full Professor (2014–present).

His research focuses on developing small molecule inhibitors targeting poly(ADP-ribose) polymerases (PARPs), histone deacetylases (HDACs), and RAD51 for cancer treatment. His work integrates organic synthesis, structural biology, and molecular modeling. He has authored 91 peer-reviewed articles in journals like J. Med. Chem. and Eur. J. Med. Chem.

Dr. Talele has mentored 6 Ph.D. and 10 M.S. students since 2005, and currently advises one graduate student, two postdoctoral researchers, and multiple undergraduates. He serves on the editorial boards of European Journal of Medicinal Chemistry and _bioorganic Chemistry_.
