Prof Tan Eng King is a Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Academic Affairs) and Senior Consultant Neurologist at the National Neuroscience Institute (NNI). He holds dual professorial positions at Duke-NUS Medical School and the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS. His academic leadership roles include Academic Deputy Chair of the SingHealth Duke-NUS Neuroscience Academic Clinical Programme.
Prof Tan’s education includes MBBS, MRCP (UK), FAMS (Neurology), and FRCP (Edinburgh). He has held numerous professional appointments, including Fellowships at the Royal College of Physicians (Edinburgh) and the Academy of Medicine, Singapore.
His research focuses on Parkinson’s disease, movement disorders, neuroimaging, and regeneration medicine. Key interests include clinical trials (e.g., AMPA antagonists for Parkinson’s motor fluctuations) and translational studies in stem cell-derived organoids for dopaminergic neuron therapies.
Notable awards include the Yoshikuni Mizuno Award (2016) and SingHealth Duke-NUS Research Team Award (2017). He leads several high-profile clinical trials, including investigations into Alzheimer’s dementia treatments and post-stroke cognitive decline.
