Tamlyn Monson is a Research Fellow specializing in migration, urban inequality, and political mobilization. Her work examines issues of social justice, spatial power dynamics, and policy responses to displacement and xenophobia. She holds a PhD in Sociology from the London School of Economics (2015), alongside Master's degrees in Forced Migration (University of the Witwatersrand) and Applied Linguistics (Birkbeck).
Her research interests include established-newcomer relations, informal institutions, and the intersections of conflict, displacement, and urban marginalization. She has led projects on migrant integration in Europe, including the AIMEC initiative (2021-2024), and studied xenophobic violence in South Africa through the SAHRC investigation (2010). Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to social justice and urban sustainability.
Monson has held roles at institutions like UCL, the UK Ministry of Housing, and the Foreign Commonwealth Office. Her interdisciplinary approach bridges academia, policy, and activism, focusing on knowledge mobilization and grassroots engagement in global migration challenges.
