Dr. Tamlyn Avery is a Lecturer in English Literature at the University of Adelaide, affiliated with the School of Humanities and the Department of English, Creative Writing, and Film. Previously, they held positions at the University of Queensland (2020–2025), UNSW, Flinders University, and the Australian Catholic University. They hold a doctorate from UNSW, a First Class Honours degree, and a Master of Teaching specializing in English Literature.
Research interests include modernism, modern literature, gender and race studies, and the intersection of labor history with literary analysis, particularly in the context of the 'typewriter revolution' and African American literary history. They have published in journals like PMLA and Modernism/Modernity, and authored The Regional Development of the American Bildungsroman, 1900–1960 (Edinburgh UP, 2023). Their current project, Writing the Collar-Line, explores racial politics in white-collar bureaucratization.
