Tamas MAKANY

Tamas MAKANY is a Full-time Faculty member at Singapore Management University (SMU), currently serving as Associate Provost (Teaching and Learning Innovation) and Director of the Centre for Teaching Excellence. He holds the academic rank of Associate Professor of Communication Management (Education) within the Lee Kong Chian School of Business. His research focuses on Human-AI Communication, Digital Business Innovation, and Technology-Enhanced Learning. He earned a Ph.D. in Cognitive Psychology from the University of Southampton (2009), after completing an M.Sc. in Research Methods (2005) and M.A. in Psychology (2004) from the same university and University of Pécs, Hungary.

Prof. MAKANY’s professional experience spans academia and industry, including senior roles at Netflix, Microsoft, and LeapFrog. He has received notable awards such as the SMU-X Academic Champion & Mentor (2024) and Most Promising Teacher Award (2023). His work emphasizes bridging educational innovation with technological advancements, particularly in AI-driven learning and design education.

His research publications explore topics like chatbot applications in SMEs, AI in education, and design thinking methodologies. He actively contributes to academic and industry committees, including the Singapore Ministry of Trade and Industry’s Design Education Advisory Committee.
