Professor Tamara Sorenson Duncan is a faculty member in the School of Linguistics and Language Studies at Carleton University, where she holds the rank of Professor. She earned her PhD from the University of Alberta. Her research focuses on language and literacy development in diverse populations, including children from immigrant/refugee backgrounds, those with developmental language disorder, and children with autism spectrum disorder. She has received a SSHRC Insight Development Grant (2023) and collaborates on interdisciplinary research projects.
She teaches courses related to linguistics and language studies, and supervises students in research projects. The School offers a practicum in Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) through LING 4604, which aligns with her research interests. She invites collaboration on projects exploring how children learn second languages and other related topics.
Her work emphasizes applied linguistics and clinical aspects of language development, with a focus on supporting marginalized populations through evidence-based practices.
