Talya Porat

Dr. Talya Porat is an Associate Professor at the Dyson School of Design Engineering, Faculty of Engineering at Imperial College London. Her primary research focuses on human factors, human-computer interaction, and healthcare system optimization. She holds affiliations with the Centre for eXplainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI), the Human Behaviour and Experience Network, and the Imperial College Network of Excellence in Malaria. Additionally, she serves as a visiting lecturer in the Department of Population Health Sciences at King’s College London.

Her current research themes include improving healthcare decision-making in primary care, enhancing post-stroke health management, optimizing data visualization for clinical contexts, and reducing environmental impacts of operating rooms. She actively supervises PhD students through the China Scholarship Council LISS DTP and President’s PhD Scholarships programs.

Dr. Porat’s work bridges clinical informatics and cognitive science, with a focus on reducing medical errors through technology design. Notable projects include the HELIX auditory-cognitive training game and the CONSULT diagnostic support system. Her interdisciplinary approach integrates behavioral science, AI ethics, and global health challenges in sub-Saharan Africa.

Key affiliations include leadership roles in Imperial’s design engineering initiatives and collaborative networks such as the Digital Diagnostics for Africa network. Her research has addressed vaccination policy analysis, sustainable healthcare practices, and psychological ownership in project management contexts.
