Associate Professor Tak Yan Leung holds an academic position at the University of the Sunshine Coast (UniSC), Queensland, Australia, within the School of Business and Creative Industries' Department of Accounting. She earned her PhD in Accounting from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), MPhil in Finance from Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), and BCom (Hons) in Accounting and Finance from the University of Melbourne (UniMelb).
Her research focuses on corporate governance, audit pricing, ESG reporting, executive compensation, and the impact of political connections on corporate behavior. She has secured significant research grants from the Research Grants Council of Hong Kong SAR Government, including HK$847,406 for a project on audit pricing biases and HK$824,944 for studying audit fees and political connections. Her work has been published in top-tier journals such as the Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Corporate Finance, and European Journal of Marketing.
Dr. Leung has received multiple awards, including the Best Paper Award at the 2022 International Conference on Innovations in Business, Trade and Commerce and the Katie Shu Sui Pui Charitable Trust’s Outstanding Research Publication Award in 2017. She serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Business Research and the Asia-Pacific Journal of Taxation.
Her teaching includes courses like ACC106 (Accounting Principles) and ACC311 (Taxation Law and Practice). Collaborations with researchers like Piyush Sharma, Louis T.W. Cheng, and Pattarin Adithipyangkul have produced influential studies on topics ranging from board diversity’s impact on innovation to the dark side of political capital in corporate governance.
