Dr. Tahmina Begum is a Research Fellow at the UQ Poche Centre for Indigenous Health within the University of Queensland. She holds a medical degree and a Master's in Public Health, and completed her PhD at the University of Queensland in 2022. Her doctoral research focused on Caesarean section birth and its impact on maternal and offspring health in Australia, establishing her expertise in perinatal epidemiology and maternal-child health.
Her research interests span multiple domains including:
- Quality of healthcare improvement systems
- Non-communicable disease prevention strategies
- Health information system management
- Healthcare access for refugee and underprivileged populations
- Maternal and child health interventions
- Perinatal epidemiology and global health equity
With 14 years of prior experience in obstetric patient management and implementation research in Bangladesh, Dr. Begum specializes in mixed-methods approaches. Her technical skills include meta-analysis, group-based trajectory modeling, and longitudinal data management. She maintains a strong focus on research-to-policy translation, having served on national technical advisory committees in Bangladesh and international health advisory groups.
Dr. Begum contributes to major global health research initiatives, including the Global Burden of Disease studies, with publications spanning maternal health, indigenous health, epidemiological methods, and healthcare systems. Her research consistently addresses health disparities and service delivery improvements for vulnerable populations.
