Dr. Md. Mehedi Hasan is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the UQ Poche Centre for Indigenous Health, Faculty of Health, Medicine and Behavioural Sciences, University of Queensland. With over eight years of professional experience in public health research across developing and developed countries, he has established expertise in quantitative data analytics and addressing critical health issues in low- and middle-income contexts.
Dr. Hasan completed his PhD from the University of Queensland in 2022. His doctoral thesis, "Future direction of maternal and child health in low- and middle-income countries," utilized data from over 4.3 million participants across 284 national surveys in 75 countries to analyze future projections of maternal and child health indicators.
Dr. Hasan's research focuses on reproductive, maternal, newborn, and child health (RMNCH), nutrition, non-communicable diseases, mental health, sleep health, and social determinants of health. His work examines geographical variations and socioeconomic inequalities in health outcomes across low- and middle-income countries, with particular emphasis on Bangladesh and Southeast Asia. He employs large-scale population data to identify patterns, risk factors, and opportunities for intervention.
His extensive publication record demonstrates consistent focus on health inequalities, maternal and child health indicators, and the double burden of malnutrition. The research shows strong engagement with Global Burden of Disease methodology and cross-national comparative analyses, particularly examining how socioeconomic factors influence health outcomes across diverse cultural contexts.
Dr. Hasan has received notable recognition for his work:

Dr. Hasan is actively engaged in research mentorship as an Associate Advisor for PhD candidates. He serves as a peer reviewer for eight international journals and has contributed to numerous collaborative research projects. His current research focuses on environmental exposures in pregnancy and their relationship to adverse birth outcomes in Queensland, Australia.
As an active member of several professional international collaborative groups including Global Burden of Diseases, the American Society for Nutrition, the International Health Economics Association, the Society for Research in Child Development, and Health Systems Global, Dr. Hasan maintains strong connections with the global public health research community.
