Tae Young Lee is a Robert Riley Visiting Assistant Professor at the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, Binghamton University (SUNY), where he has worked since September 2024. His research bridges finite group theory, algebraic geometry, and number theory through the lens of representation theory.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Mathematics from Rutgers University (2024), supervised by Pham Huu Tiep
- B.S. in Mathematical Sciences (Magna Cum Laude) from KAIST (2019)
Lee focuses on classifying hypergeometric sheaves via their finite monodromy groups, utilizing techniques from representation theory and number theory. His work extends to discrete mathematics and algebraic combinatorics, particularly in problems with finite group connections.
Publications and Research Trends: Recent articles explore hypergeometric sheaves linked to finite general linear/unitary groups and extraspecial groups in even characteristic, reflecting his interest in algebraic structures with geometric and arithmetic applications.
Teaching Experience:
- Calculus III, Linear Algebra (Binghamton, 2025)
- Teaching Assistant & Workshop Instructor at Rutgers (2023)
- Mentor for Directed Reading Program (2023)
Professional Activities:
- Presented at AMS meetings, KAIST Number Theory Seminar, and international conferences (2022–2024)
- Collaborates with mentor Hung P. Tong-Viet
