Taco Kuijpers is a Full Professor of Paediatric Immunology at the University of Amsterdam and holds affiliations with multiple research institutes including the Amsterdam Reproduction & Development (AR&D) and Landsteiner Laboratory. He is a staff member at the Dept of Paediatric Immunology/Rheumatology/Infectious disease at Amsterdam UMC and the Emma Children’s Hospital. His research focuses on neutrophil biology, immunodeficiencies, and infectious diseases, with a particular interest in Kawasaki disease and genetic immune disorders. He has held leadership roles in national and international consortia such as Target-to-B!, the International Kawasaki Disease Genetics Consortium, and EU-funded programs like DIAMONDS and PERFORM.
Education: MD (cum laude, 1992) and PhD (cum laude, 1989) from the University of Amsterdam. Postdoctoral training at the University of Washington (Seattle) and residency in Paediatrics (1993-1998).
Research interests include B cell development, neutrophil apoptosis, hyperinflammation mechanisms, and clinical immunology. His work bridges rare genetic cases (e.g., human knock-out models) with broader disease understanding.
Awards include the N4i Weemaes-Van der Meer Award (2013), NWO-VIDI Fellowship (2004–2009), and Fellowship from KNAW (1997). He currently chairs the Dutch Working Party on Immunodeficiencies and advises governmental health bodies.
Key grants include leadership in EU-funded projects (FP7/H2020) and co-PI roles in studies on SARS-CoV-2 vaccination in immunosuppressed patients. His lab collaborates with Sanquin’s Blood Cell Research Department and the Emma Children’s Hospital.
