Dr. Tabitha Baker is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Humanities and Law at Bournemouth University's Faculty of Media and Communication. She earned her PhD in 2022 with a thesis exploring the psychosocial relationship between national identity and political sentiment in post-Brexit England. Her research integrates psychoanalytical theory with sociopolitical analysis to study collective defense mechanisms, regional identities, and democratic engagement.
Education: PhD in 2022 (Bournemouth University), focusing on psychosocial dynamics of national identity. Teaching spans Politics, Law, Media, and socio-political History across undergraduate and postgraduate programs. She leads the Foundation Year academic programme, overseeing curriculum development and staff coordination.
Research Interests: Multidisciplinary studies on national/ regional identities, civic engagement, and democratic empowerment. Specializes in qualitative methods, particularly in analyzing political psychology and socio-political crises. Current projects include a British Academy-funded study on regional identities through Ska music culture and a micro-analysis of local democracy during crises.
Grants & Awards: PI on British Academy grant (2023-2024) for local democracy research; Co-Investigator on 'Skatillite Towns' (2025-2027). Recipient of the Higher Education Academy Fellowship (2021).
External Engagement: Trustee at Citizens Advice Central Dorset and Dorset Race Equality Council. Active in media commentary on UK elections, rural voter behavior, and political psychology. Publications include analyses of Brexit's affective geography and the psychodynamics of conspiracy culture.
