Dr. Tabea Thies is a researcher at the University of Cologne, Department of Linguistics, focusing on speech motor control in neurological disorders. Affiliated with the Cologne Center of Language Sciences (CCLS) and International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society (MDS), she bridges phonetics and clinical research.
Her work investigates speech characteristics in Parkinson’s disease and essential tremor, analyzing effects of levodopa and deep brain stimulation (DBS) on articulatory and prosodic patterns. Recent projects include “Take a Breath” (validating EMA for speech breathing) and SFB 1252 (digital biomarkers for speech changes).
Key publications address compensatory articulatory mechanisms, automatic speech analysis, and machine learning applications for predicting motor states.
