Dr T.J. Lang is a Senior Lecturer in New Testament Studies at the University of St Andrews' School of Divinity, serving as co-director of the Institute for Bible, Theology, & Hermeneutics and Director of Postgraduate Studies (Research). He holds a PhD from Duke University and has held roles as Lecturer at Durham University, Fulbright Scholar at Universität Heidelberg, and fellowships including the Dolores Zohrab Liebmann and DAAD grants. His research focuses on New Testament studies, its formation history, and reception processes, emphasizing how interpretive traditions engage with early Christian texts.
Education: PhD in New Testament Studies (Duke University), minor areas in Early Christianity and Greco-Roman Systems of Thought.
Research interests span New Testament exegesis, early Christian historiography, and theology, particularly exploring how canonical formation and reception history shape modern interpretations. His work frequently engages Greco-Roman contexts and early Christian communities’ social dynamics.
Publications reflect this focus, analyzing Pauline letters, eschatology, and early Christian identity. He has received the 2017 Manfred Lautenschläger Award for Theological Promise for his monograph Mystery and the Making of a Christian Historical Consciousness.
