Dr. ir. T. (Terry) van Dijk is an Associate Professor in Planning and Design at the Faculty of Spatial Sciences, University of Groningen. He specializes in the intersection of urban design and planning, emphasizing collaborative processes and the role of design in shaping societal outcomes. His work focuses on stakeholder engagement, spatial imagination, and innovative urban policies.
Education:
- Bachelor/Master: Wageningen University (1997 thesis on riverbank recreational use)
- Ph.D.: Delft University of Technology (2004, on Central European land fragmentation)
Research Interests: Terry investigates how design and visionary thinking enhance decision-making in urban and regional planning. Key themes include:
- The persuasive power of plans and designs in shaping public perception
- Boundary spanning in climate adaptation and post-disaster rebuilding
- Child-friendly urban policies and local agenda-setting.
