Sławomir Toman

Sławomir Toman is a Professor at the Faculty of Artistic, Maria Curie-Skłodowska University, where he has been affiliated since 1997. He serves as Deputy Director of the Doctoral School of Humanities and is a member of artistic associations including Otwarta Pracownia and the Lublin Society for the Encouragement of Fine Arts.

• Studied at the Institute of Art Education, UMCS (1986-87)
• Graduated from the Faculty of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków (1993)
• Received a diploma with distinction from École Régionale des Beaux-Arts in Rennes, France (1997)

His research and artistic work focuses on painting, visual arts, and contemporary art curation. He has curated numerous exhibitions across Poland and internationally, including solo shows at Galeria Labirynt (Lublin) and CSW Zamek Ujazdowski (Warsaw). His work explores themes like materiality of being, identity, and spatial narratives through painting and installations.

Scientific awards include:

• Nomination for Paszport Polityki (2003)
• Ministry of Culture scholarship (2002)
• French Ministry of Foreign Affairs scholarship (1995)

He actively participates in international biennials and juried competitions, including co-founding the Lubelska Wiosna Biennale.
