Søren Frimann is an Associate Professor at Aalborg University's Department of Culture and Learning, where he leads section D and previously headed the Processes and Learning in Organizations research group. His PhD research centers on organizational communication, with emphasis on leadership development, action research/learning, and co-creative methodologies. He currently chairs the Study Board for Continuing Education and serves on multiple academic committees.
Frimann's research investigates dialogical approaches to organizational change across three domains: (1) leadership agency in interorganizational contexts, (2) sustainable learning in public institutions, and (3) reflexive methodologies for healthcare/education reform. His work integrates Scandinavian management philosophy with participatory action frameworks.
His publications demonstrate consistent focus on practical applications of action research, with recent studies examining social sustainability in public services (2024), discourse barriers in healthcare (2023), and Nordic organizational learning models (2021). Article keywords reveal strong interdisciplinary bridges between organizational psychology, educational theory, and management studies.
As research supervisor, he has guided PhD projects on workplace resonance and leadership identity. His Collaborative Organizational Learning (CO-LEARN) group secured 27 research grants since 2003, including projects on 'Leadership Capacity Building' (2023-2025) and 'Quality Development in Early Education' (2023).
