Søren Buus

Søren Buus is a Professor of Immunology at the University of Copenhagen's Department of Immunology and Microbiology (Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences), a position he has held since 1996. He earned his MD from the University of Århus (1981) and DMSc from the University of Copenhagen (1994). His career includes roles as Associate Professor (1990-1995) and research positions at institutions like the National Jewish Hospital in Denver.

His research focuses on how the immune system recognizes pathogens, specializing in:

• Antigen processing/presentation and T-cell activation mechanisms
• Biochemical analysis of peptide-MHC interactions
• High-density peptide microarrays for epitope mapping
• Development of HLA prediction tools and tetramer technologies

These contributions have reshaped understanding of T-cell recognition.

Recent publications (2022-2025) demonstrate strong focus on:

• Vaccine immunology (MMR, COVID-19, Coxiella burnetii)
• Viral pathogenesis (Coxsackievirus, Zika)
