Szymon Drobniak is an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at the School of Biological, Earth & Environmental Sciences at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and an Associate Professor at Jagiellonian University in Poland. His career spans roles as a Research Assistant (2012–2015) and Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Zurich (2013–2015) and Uppsala University (2017–2018). He was awarded a DECRA Fellowship at UNSW in 2019.
- PhD in Biology (Jagiellonian University, 2012)
- MSc in Mathematical and Natural Sciences (Jagiellonian University, 2008)
Research Interests: Drobniak specializes in meta-analysis and comparative ecology, focusing on animal coloration (particularly avian plumage), phenotypic plasticity, quantitative genetics, and the ecological consequences of climate change. His work often integrates statistical ecology, thermal biology, and evolutionary genetics.
Article Trends: His recent publications emphasize methodological rigor in ecological meta-analyses, thermal tolerance in ectotherms, and the role of non-genetic inheritance. He frequently collaborates on interdisciplinary projects, including the SPI-Birds data hub and Co-BreeD database. Keywords cluster around Evolutionary Biology, Ecology, and Statistics, with subfields like Thermal Acclimation, Avian Reproduction, and Scientific Transparency.
Scientific Awards:
- Winner of FameLab 2015 in Poland
Outreach & Collaborations: Drobniak is a prolific science communicator, authoring two popular science books and hosting TV shows. He collaborates with institutions like the Museum of Modern Art in Kraków and contributes to initiatives like the EuroScitizen COST Action. His work bridges empirical research and policy, advocating for open science and inclusivity in academic publishing.
