Jordan Price is a Professor of Biology at St. Mary's College of Maryland, where he leads the Price lab focused on evolutionary biology and ornithology. His research integrates field observations and molecular analyses to study animal communication, with a focus on birds' vocalizations, plumage, and nest architecture. He earned a B.Sc.H. in Biology and B.A. in Psychology from Queen’s University (1990), a Ph.D. in Biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (1998), and completed postdoctoral research at the University of Minnesota.
His research spans evolutionary mechanisms behind avian traits, including female song evolution, sexual dichromatism, and climate-driven ecological shifts. His work has been featured in National Geographic, Scientific American, and The New York Times, highlighting breakthroughs such as the evolutionary origins of bird nests and vocal communication. He emphasizes undergraduate involvement in research, fostering hands-on learning in field and lab settings.
Key interests include phylogenetic approaches to behavior, bioacoustics, and the interplay between ecological pressures and avian trait evolution. His lab’s current projects explore topics like climate change impacts on bird distributions and the genetic basis of plumage coloration.
