Synne Simonsen Hansen

Synne Simonsen Hansen is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Physiology, UiT The Arctic University of Norway, with a dual affiliation to the Department of Medical Biology. She holds a PhD in Medical Biology (2022) and a DVM/Master in Veterinary Science from the University of Copenhagen (2010). Her research focuses on myocardial remodeling in obesity, type II diabetes, and heart failure, particularly investigating NADPH oxidase enzymes' roles in diabetic cardiomyopathy. She belongs to the Vascular Biology research group.

Teaching responsibilities span multiple programs: Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Radiography, and Biomedicine. She leads courses in anatomy, physiology, and biochemistry across undergraduate and master's levels. Her academic leadership roles include interim Head of Physiology and course leadership for key medical curricula.

Her research emphasizes oxidative stress mechanisms in cardiovascular diseases, with publications in journals like Antioxidants and Biochimica et Biophysica Acta. She actively contributes to exam committees and thesis supervision across biomedical disciplines.
