Sylvy Anscombe

Sylvy Anscombe is an Associate Professor (maîtresse de conférences) at Université Paris Cité, affiliated with the Équipe de Logique within the Institut de Mathématiques de Jussieu–Paris Rive Gauche (IMJ-PRG). Her research focuses on model theory and its connections to algebra and number theory, particularly in valued fields, henselian valuations, and decidability questions. She holds a DPhil from the University of Oxford, supervised by Prof. Jochen Koenigsmann.

Her work explores the definability in henselian fields, Ax–Kochen–Ershov principles, and applications to Hilbert’s Tenth Problem. She co-leads the ANR-DFG project “AKE-PACT” and supervises PhD students in valued field theory. Anscombe serves as an editor for the Model Theory journal and actively contributes to international conferences, including the Logique à Paris series and the Hausdorff Research Institute for Mathematics’ trimester programs.

Her research also intersects asymptotic classes of finite structures and measurable fields, with recent work on Cohen rings and existential AKE principles. She collaborates widely, including with Franziska Jahnke and Arno Fehm.
