Sylvie Corteel is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of California Berkeley, appointed in 2017. She is also a Directrice de recherche at CNRS (on leave starting Fall 2019) and affiliated with IRIF at Universite de Paris. Her research focuses on Enumerative and Algebraic Combinatorics, with connections to orthogonal polynomials, Markov chains, and polytopes.
- Research Interests: Combinatorics, Algebra, Lattice paths, Symmetric functions, and their applications in probability and discrete mathematics.
- Editorial Roles: Former Editor in Chief of JCTA until June 2020, and currently serves on the editorial boards of Annals of Combinatorics, Algebraic Combinatorics, and others.
- Teaching: Has taught courses including Algebraic Combinatorics (MATH 249), Combinatorics (MATH 172), and Discrete Mathematics (MATH 55) at UC Berkeley.
- Advising: Supervised multiple PhD students, including Esme Bajo (2024), Frederick Huang (2023), Andrew Gitlin (2022), Donghyun Kim (2021), Mario Sanchez (2021), and Melissa Sherman-Bennett (2021).
- Organized Events: Co-organized seminars and workshops such as the Algebraic Combinatorics Workshop (2020), Asymptotic Algebraic Combinatorics (2020), and Enumerative Combinatorics (2022).
