Sylvia Gottschalk

Dr Sylvia Gottschalk is a Senior Lecturer in Economics at Middlesex University Business School's Department of Accounting, Finance & Economics. She previously worked as a researcher and forecaster at the National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR) before joining Middlesex University.

Her research spans applied economics, focusing on financial economics, green finance, computational finance, and big data analysis. She integrates mathematics and physics into economic and financial modeling through memberships in the Institute of Mathematics and Applications (IMA), London Mathematical Society (LMS), and Institute of Physics (IoP).

Dr Gottschalk's recent publications address green finance for shipping, SME access to sustainable funding, cryptoasset regulation, and macroeconomic shocks' impact on equity correlations. Her teaching includes fixed-income analysis, derivatives, financial econometrics, and behavioral finance.

She supervises doctoral researchers on topics like risk management and corporate determinants of profit in global banking, and serves as associate editor for Beta-Scandinavian Journal of Business Research and SN Business and Economics.
