Sylvia Daunert, Pharm.D., M.S., Ph.D., is a Professor and Lucille P. Markey Chair in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Miami's Miller School of Medicine. She leads the Dr. JT Macdonald Biomedical Nanotechnology Institute and directs the Frost Institutes and University STEM Centers. Prior to this, she was the Gill Eminent Professor at the University of Kentucky. Her research focuses on bionanotechnology applications for biomedical and environmental challenges, including engineered proteins for diagnostics, drug delivery, and environmental sensing. She has over 400 publications and numerous patents, and her honors include the NSF CAREER Award, van Slyke Research Award, and membership in prestigious academies like the International Academy of Nanotechnology and Spain's Real Academia Nacional de Farmacia. Her lab develops enabling technologies for early cancer detection, targeted drug delivery, and microbiome analysis.
