Dr. Sylvan Baker is a Creative Learning and Education Associate at the Royal Society of Arts (RSA) and affiliated with Queen Mary University of London's School of English and Drama. With 25 years of experience, his practice focuses on applied arts research, community collaboration, and widening access to academic knowledge through interdisciplinary approaches. He currently leads the 'Verbatim Formula' project with Dr. Maggie Inchley, engaging care-experienced youth to reform the care system through verbatim theatre. Additional projects include Immersive Democracy (school community engagement) and The Evaluation Project (creative research validation methods).
His future work explores performance of online trolling and intersections of disability art with mental health. Collaborative roles include Associate Artist with People’s Palace Projects, The Clod Ensemble (Performing Medicine), and National Youth Theatre of Great Britain. He serves as Trustee for Tender Arts, Entelechy Arts, and London Bubble Theatre Co.
Baker emphasizes bridging academic disciplines and public communities, advocating for co-researcher models that center marginalized voices. His practice spans UK and international projects in Europe/Latin America, prioritizing participatory methodologies.
