Professeur titulaire at the Faculty of Music, University of Montreal, Sylvain Caron specializes in 19th-20th century French music, religious music, and the interplay between interpretation, analysis, and expression. He directs the Interdisciplinary Observatory for Creation and Musical Research (OICRM) and contributes to the Musique en France research team funded by FRQ-SC. His teaching spans baroque music history, performance musicology, and music-fine arts intersections.
He co-edited major works like *Musique et modernité en France* (2006) and *Musique, Art et Religion dans l’entre-deux-guerres* (2009). Awards include the 2024 Excellence Teaching Prize for program internationalization. Active in public outreach, he collaborates with Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and Arte Musica Foundation on interdisciplinary projects.
Research focuses on Fauré, Vierne, and Koechlin, with publications exploring symbolism, exotism in turn-of-the-century French music, and comparative analysis of tempo variations in Couperin's works.
